British treasury freezes terrorist account

The British Treasury has frozen the account and all transactions of an international humanitarian organisation financing al-Qaeda.

The Treasury told RIA Novosti that on Tuesday morning the Bank of England had given instructions to all the country's banking and financial organisations to freeze the account and transactions of the organisation "The Benevolence International Foundation," which has offices in many countries, including Russia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

According to secret service information, this organisation, which is officially engaged non-profit making and provides services in the humanitarian sphere, in reality is involved in funding al-Qaeda and specific terrorists who have been involved in recent years terrorist attacks in various regions of the world.

The Treasury reported that the relevant organisations in the USA had taken similar steps with regard to the Benevolence International Foundation.
