American companies plan to invest 13 billion dollars in Russian projects

During the coming four years American companies intend to invest 13 billion dollars "in the infrastructure connected with oil and gas delivery to the world markets," said US ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow when speaking at a meeting of the Russian-American working group on co-operation between Russia's Far East and US Western coast, held on Wednesday in Anchorage /Alaska/. US companies working in Arctic conditions "are interested in working in similar conditions in Russia's Far East," the American ambassador said. "We expect the number of American people who will work in Russia's eastern outskirts to increase significantly," Vershbow stated adding that the USA was planning to found an American consulate in Sakhalin for providing consulate services to American citizens. We are currently looking for a proper accommodation for this consulate, the ambassador said.

When stressing the importance of "enhanced cooperation in the energy sector," Vershbow said that the Russian-American "energy summit" which was to open in Houston within "the coming weeks" would contribute to closer contacts between Russia and the USA.
