Ukrainian crisis enters lingering stage

Ukrainian opposition leaders who seized a broadcasting centre of the Ukrainian UT-1 TV channel have left the TV centre. Yulia Timoshenko, the leader of a political bloc of the same name, reported that Igor Storozhuk had promised the opposition leaders that they would be allowed to speak live on TV on Wednesday.

Yulia Timoshenko in conjunction with Communist leader Pyotr Simonenko and chairman of the Socialist party Alexander Moroz used their legislator status to get free access to the centre on Monday evening in order to inform the nation about a protest action to take place on Tuesday near the Supreme Rada (legislature).

The opposition is to demand the change of the Ukrainian government and immediate resignation of president Leonid Kuchma.

According to the UT-1 press service, the opposition intrusion into the TV centre caused no serious incidents
