Belarussian arms in Iraq? No, says Foreign Ministry

Belarus engages in dual-purpose exports to Iraq-tentatively, for its arsenals, says Great Britain's The Observer.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs resolutely denies its allegations, which Pavel Latushko, ministerial press spokesman, describes as "far-fetched".

As it really is, Belarussian-Iraqi economic contacts closely comply with resolutions of the United Nations Security Council on anti-Iraqi sanctions, and never trespass the limits of the Food for Oil programme, with every batch getting through the UN sanctions committee.

The ministry repeatedly appealed to the US, Israeli and Polish embassies for documentary proof of alleged underhand Belarussian exports to Iraq, but has not received a reply to this day, Mr. Latushko said to Novosti.
