US to Pay USD 625,000 for Dismantling Russia's Military Stations in Georgia

The US will pay USD 526,000 to the OSCE to support the dismantling of Russia's military stations in Georgia in accordance with the agreement signed during the 1999 summit in Istanbul. According to the international information centre of the US Department of State, this is the first ever financial participation of that country in a matter like this.

Douglas Davidson, the deputy head of the US mission at the OSCE, said US officials were upset because the Istanbul agreement was not adhered to. He added that his country 'insists that the money in question was used immediately and purposefully' and that 'the allocated amount should remove the existing financial barriers'.

In 1999, at the OSCE summit in Istanbul, Russia promised to remove her military stations from Georgia.
