Lithuania is to prepare proposals on rocket propellant transit from Kaliningrad region

Prime Minister Algirdas Brazauskas has ordered to set up a working group to develop proposals on rocket propellant transit shipment from the Kaliningrad region via Lithuania.

The decision to set up an expert group was taken by Russian and Lithuanian Defence Ministers Sergei Ivanov and Linas Linkevicius during their meeting in Palanga this summer.

In 1990 the Lithuanian government decided to ban the transit of such a dangerous load through the country's territory. The permission for the propellant transit had been earlier granted by the Defence Ministry's transport service.

The experts believe that the rocket propellant, accumulated in the Kaliningrad region, can be only shipped by railways.
