Russians hack Pentagon network – US Defense Secretary

US Director of National Intelligence concern for Russian cyber threat that is "more severe than we have previously assessed" appeared to be true.

Pentagon officials are worried with the Russians hackers attack towards one of their networks.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter claimed yesterday at his Stanford University speech, that "earlier this year, the sensors that guard DOD's unclassified networks detected Russian hackers accessing one of our networks."

Carter also warned Russia that the United States Department of Defense will have to apply for cyber weaponry in case it is required:

"Adversaries should know that our preference for deterrence and our defensive posture don't diminish our willingness to use cyber options if necessary."

He notified that Russian hackers were identified by a team of incident responders who thwarted the intrusion.

It has been earlier reported that hackers penetrated the State Department as well as the White House.

The hackers gained access to "sensitive information such as real-time non-public details of the president's schedule."

According to the report, the State Department system had been "owned" by the hackers for months and it was not yet clear if the attack had ended.
