Russia may condemn annexation of German Democratic Republic

Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin entrusted the Committee for Foreign Affairs to study the proposal from Communist Party deputy Nikolai Ivanov. It goes about the possible adoption of the statement from the Russian parliament condemning "the annexation of the German Democratic Republic by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1989," IA REGNUM reports. 

Sergei Naryshkin voiced the idea at the meeting with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, when, not without irony, he was responding to the European politician. Naryshkin said: "The logic here is the same, but Russia is strongly against this logic, as in the case of both the GDR and the Crimea. We always do against double standards," said the speaker of the State Duma. 

MP Nikolai Ivanov assumed that Russia could arrange such a response in an official form, taking into consideration the fact that the GDR became a part of the FRG avoiding a national referendum.

"We were supportive of you, when on January 26, at a PACE press conference, you were fighting off the attacks from PACE President Anne Brasseur, who accused Russia of the "annexation" of the Crimea. For a retaliatory step, I suggest instructing the Committee for Foreign Affairs to prepare a statement condemning the annexation of the German Democratic Republic by the Federal Republic of Germany in 1989," Nikolai Ivanov said.
