Poland to deport Russian diplomats amid spy scandal

Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz threatened to expel Russian diplomats, journalists and ordinary Russians from Poland. Warsaw is playing on the detention of two Polish citizens, who had been arrested on suspicion of espionage to blow the spy scandal out of proportion for a large-scale anti-Russian demarche.

According to experts, the belligerent rhetoric serves as a electoral trick, as well as Poland's obligations to "senior colleagues" from the West. The decision on the possible expulsion of Russian diplomats from Poland can be taken after the meeting of the Polish government on Tuesday, Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said.

The officer was charged with espionage in favor of a third country, which stipulates up to ten years in prison. According to Polish media, the arrested employee of the Defense Ministry of Poland allegedly met with members of the Russian Central Intelligence Directorate, who were working under the diplomatic disguise at the Russian Embassy in Warsaw.
