Direct Ferry Between Russia, Germany via Ust-Luga May Be Restored

The possibility of the setting up of a ferry line between the port of Ust-Luga, the Leningrad Region and that of Sasnitz, Germany is being discussed with the delegation that has arrived to the Leningrad Region from the German Land of Mecklenburg. According to the press service of the administration of the Leningrad Region, the delegation headed by Dieter Holtz, the Burgomaster of the city of Sasnitz, and Wolfgang Herbes, Chairman of the Overseeing Committee, Deputy Minister of Transportation of Mecklenburg, will remain in the region till October 25. The delegation will have a close look at the construction of the seaport in Ust-Luga, the Leningrad Region and the progress of the Baltic Ferry Line project.

Sasnitz is the eastmost seaport of Germany. Early in 1990s, ferry connection between the USSR and Germany was disrupted. Now both countries want it restored.
