First Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff to meet head of NATO military committee in Moscow

First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Colonel General Yury Baluyevsky will meet on Wednesday with Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Harald Kujat who has arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit.

As a RIA Novosti correspondent was told in the Russian Defence Ministry, the head of the highest military body of the North Atlantic Alliance is expected to discuss with representatives of the Russian Defence Ministry the questions concerning Russia's cooperation with NATO in the format of the Group of Twenty Countries and urgent problems of international security, including joint efforts in the sphere of the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, non-strategic missile defence and the fight against international terrorism.

The former general inspector of the Bundeswehr General Harald Kujat took office in NATO in the summer of 2002.

The NATO headquarters reported that the aim of Harald Kujat's first visit to Russia in the new capacity is meant to deepen relations between the military authorities of NATO and Russia.

Apart from meetings with his Russian colleagues, the general also plans to visit the NATO military mission which opened in Moscow in May.
