Chinese migrate to bow to Mao Zedong statue

Thousands of Chinese will go to the county town of Shaoshan this week (Hunan Province, in the southeastern part of the country) to celebrate the 120th anniversary since the birth of the chief theoretician of Mao Zedong.

The Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Xi Jinping, previously urged citizens of the country to mark the anniversary with no frills.

According to press reports, the authorities of Shaoshan, the homeland of the Chinese leader, plan to spend about $2.5 million for the upcoming celebrations. It is assumed that the allocated funds will be used on the restoration of the house, where Mao Zedong lived. The main part of celebrations will be held on the birthday of the "father of the New China."

In the Chinese capital, close relatives, as well as admirers of Mao Zedong, had already visited the House of Memory (Mausoleum) on Beijing's Tiananmen Square. His daughters Li Na and Li Min, Mao's grandson Xinyu, as well as the country's top officials, Chairman Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang and others bowed their heads to the statue of the former chairman of the People's Republic of China.
