Iran has absolute right to enrich uranium

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammed Jawad Zarif said Monday that his country had "an absolute right" to enrich uranium on its territory, France 24 reports.

"Mastering the nuclear technology, including uranium enrichment for civilian needs on the Iranian land is an absolute right of Iran," he said at a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Yves Rossier. The Iranian official also said that the events of recent years demonstrated the inadequacy of the idea of imposing sanctions and threats.

It is expected that Iran and six mediator countries - Russia, Britain, China, France, Germany, the United States - will again discuss the Iranian program at a conference in Geneva on October 15.

This will be the first talks on the subject since the election of reformer Hassan Rouhani as President of Iran. Many tend to believe that Rouhani, who seems to be very attuned to peace talks, and recently, in contrast to his predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, recognized the Holocaust, tends to improve Iran's relations with the West.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently said that he did not believe the new president of Iran and called him "a wolf in sheep's clothing."
