Japan outraged with French Fukushima cartoons

The Japanese government was outraged with a publication of cartoons in the French magazine Le Canard enchaîné. One of the pictures depicts three-armed and three-legged sumo wrestlers against the background of Fukushima nuclear power plant.

The caption to the pictures says that thanks to Japan's efforts, sumo was included in the program of the Olympic Games. The cartoons ridicule the decision of the International Olympic Committee to choose Tokyo as the capital of the Olympics in 2020.

The Japanese were outraged with a playful approach to the tragedy at Fukushima. According to the Press Secretary to the Japanese Government, the country intends to express an official protest in connection with the publication of the cartoons as their contents may hurt the feelings of the people who were affected by the earthquake and the nuclear power plant accident.
