Moscow demands an immediate investigation of aircraft spare parts shipments to Iraq through Yugoslavia

Moscow demands "an immediate investigation" of the fact that the aircraft spare parts from aircraft factory "Eagle" on the territory of the Serb Republic (a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) were shipped to Iraq through Yugoslavia in violation of the UN Security Council embargo, announced the RF Foreign Ministry official Alexander Yakovenko. He said that Moscow calls for preventing such activities in the future.

"According to information we are receiving, the authorities in Yugoslavia, Serb Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Central Bosnia are taking appropriate measures at this point," Yakovenko underlined. He also mentioned that Moscow is closely monitoring the developments in the situation. "Russia is concerned about any kind of activities that violate the existing UN Security Council resolutions," he stressed.

At the same time, Moscow doesn't want this particular incident to become a pretext for "a demonstrative punishment" of both Belgrade and Bosnian Serbs or to increase political pressure on Yugoslavian and Serb Republic authorities."
