Israel tests state-of-the-art Magic Wand

Israel has tested its Magic Wand missile defense system also known as David's Sling. The system was tested in an Israeli desert. The system is designed to intercept Hamas medium-range missiles.

As noted by ISRAland, this system is considered the first of its kind in the world. The system is the embodiment of a real technological breakthrough. David's Sling is able to intercept missiles with a range of about 300 kilometers. During the test, the Air Force of the IDF launched a rocket-target missile simulating a potential enemy.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak congratulated the participants of the tests, noting that David's Sling will be an important component of Israel's missile defense system, Utro.ru said.

The new system is to become an intermediate link between the Iron Dome tactical system and long-range missiles, Arrow and Patriot, wrote the Rossiyskaya Gazeta. The new complex will be passed into service in 2014-2015.

The Iron Dome destroys short-range missile. The effectiveness of this system was proven in the period from 14 to 21 November, during the conflict with Hamas in Gaza. The system intercepted 421 missiles, which accounted for about 80 percent of all missiles launched by guerrillas.
