Party of Regions' victory at Ukraine elections was obvious from the start

The processing of 28.40 percent of ballot papers at the parliamentary elections in Ukraine showed that the ruling Party of Regions won 37.08 percent of votes. Opposition bloc Fatherland comes second  with 20.91 percent. The top three closes with the Communist Party of Ukraine (15.33 percent), according to the materials posted on the website of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine.

Two other parties that surpassed the 5-percent limit will be represented in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine too. They are Udar, the party by boxer Vitali Klitschko (12.58 percent) and nationalist party Svoboda (7.51 percent), BFM.Ru reports.

"I said before the elections that we were counting for 15%. Indeed, many predicted better results for us due to undecided voters. Unfortunately, we were not able to bring our platform and our program to each voter," said Klitschko.

Almost immediately after the vote, which took place on a mixed system for the first time in 10 years, it became clear that Viktor Yanukovych's ruling Party of Regions was winning the elections. Ukraine's Prime Minister and the head of the party, Nikolai Azarov, announced the victory of the movement just 30 minutes after the polls closed, said RBC.

The turnout at the election was 57.99 percent according to preliminary information from the Central Election Committee.
