Kiev to comment on Western experts conclusions on possible Ukraine Kolchuga systems deliveries to Iraq

Official Kiev intends to express its own point of view on Tuesday with regard to the report by American and British experts concerning the possibility of Ukrainian deliveries of the Kolchuga systems to Iraq.

The Ukrainian opinion of the report submitted by the Western experts, who worked in Ukraine in the middle of October, will be made public by the head of the Ukrainian President's administration, Viktor Medvedchuk.

On Monday, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Yevgeny Marchuk told reporters that Ukraine could not and did not intend to make public the classified documents.

Yevgeny Marchuk once more confirmed that Kiev is interested in investigating the situation by the United Nations committee that has arisen in connection with the accusation of Ukraine of selling radars to Iraq. This proposal was addressed to the United Nations on Sunday by Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Zlenko.

A group of experts from the United States and Great Britain worked in Ukraine in the middle of October. In their report, forwarded to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the exports pointed out that they did not receive enough evidence that Ukraine had not sold the Kolchuga systems to Iraq.

Earlier, the United States stated that the FBI recognised as authentic the episode of the recorded conversation of President Leonid Kuchma about the possible sale to Iraq of the Kolchuga system.

This conversation of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma with high ranking officials was recorded by former major of the Ukrainian President's state guard Nikolai Melnichenko who later received a political asylum in the United States.
