Italian students storm Pisa Tower, block roads and raiways

42497.jpegItalian students have stormed the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Rome's Colosseum and blocked roads and railways in protest against university reform planned by Silvio Berlusconi's struggling government.

The measures, currently before parliament, include spending cuts and time limits on research.

Thousands of students marched in cities around Italy and occupied university buildings, ABC Online reports.

At the Colosseum, students who had broken away from a larger demonstration jumped the turnstiles and managed to hang a banner saying "No cuts, no profit" on the arena's second tier.

The action came one day after students managed to push their way through the main doors of the Italian Senate. About 15 people, including eight police officers, were injured in clashes in Rome, Herald Sun informs.
