Chemical tanker carrying 6,000 tons of solvent collides with cargo ship off France coast

A chemical tanker carrying thousands of tons of a gasoline product was being towed toward France's northwestern coast Friday after it collided with another ship, the boat's manager and maritime officials said.

There was no visible pollution in the water surrounding the 120-meter (131-yard) ship, which was built in 2008 and was sailing under a Maltese flag, said the Atlantic maritime prefecture in the French city of Brest, according to The Associated Press.

All the 13 crew members on board a chemical tanker carrying 6,000 tons of solvent have been airlifted to safety after their vessel collided with a cargo ship in the English Channel, officials said on Friday.

The accident occurred early Friday when the Maltese-registered chemical tanker 'YM Uranus' collided with a cargo ship off the western coast of France, according to RTT News reports.
