British diplomat in Yemen survives missile attack in nation's capital

41900.jpegBritain's deputy ambassador to Yemen has survived a rocket attack in the capital Sana'a, local security officials say.

It was the second major assassination attempt on a British diplomatic target in the country this year. The ambassador, Timothy Torlot, survived a suicide bombing also aimed at his car in April. Four men, including one German national, are currently on trial for that attack. Few details have so far been released on the latest attempt, Telegraph reports.

The embassy's deputy chief of mission, Fionna Gibb, was in the car, but not injured. Britain's Foreign Office said in a statement one staff member suffered minor injuries.

In London, British Foreign Secretary William Hague condemned the "shameful attack" and said it "will only redouble Britain's determination to work with the government of Yemen to help address the challenges that country faces.", The Associated Press informs.
