Two Category 4 hurricanes swirl in Atlantic Ocean

Two Category 4 hurricanes were swirling in the Atlantic Ocean as a strengthening Tropical Storm Karl was beginning to slam the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. With sustained winds of 65 mph, Karl was is still a threat to reach hurricane strength of 74 mph, forecasters said.

Tropical storm warnings were in effect for much of the coast as the storm moved west-northwest near 13 mph. It is expected to move across the Yucatan Peninsula into the southwestern gulf by Thursday, where it likely will re-strengthen, Tampabay says.

However Karl doesn't have much time to become a hurricane since he is already very close to land. Tropical Storm Karl is located 105 miles east of Chetumal Mexico and is moving towards the west-northwest at 13 mph. Karl is expected slow down his forward speed and track across the Yucatan today and emerge into the Bay of Campeche located in the Southern Gulf of Mexico.

The official forecast takes Karl into the northeastern Mexican coast as a strong category one hurricane in about 3 days. Tropical Storm Karl at this time does not pose a threat to the U.S mainland, according to Examiner.
