Kyrgyz Authorities Arrest Nephew of Deposited President Bakiyev

Kyrgyz authorities said Friday they have arrested a nephew of deposed President Kurmanbek Bakiyev and charged him with helping organize the ethnic rioting that tore apart this Central Asian nation's south.

Hundreds of people were killed and as many as 400,000 driven from their homes this month when Kyrgyz mobs rampaged through Uzbek neighborhoods in and around the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad, The Associated Press informs.

UN humanitarian establishments jointly with the International Red Cross Committee distribute aid among those who suffered exactly in the south of Kyrgyzstan where up to 300,000 people found themselves in the position of internal refugees.

The United Nations also renders technical aid to the Kyrgyz authorities in training the referendum scheduled for June 27, exerting efforts to enable all citizens, including internal displaced persons, to take part in it, Itar-Tass says.
