Virginia state passes smoking ban

The Virginia state is now among the states under smoking ban. Today the Senate voted 23 to 15 in favor of the ban.

According to the ban, proposed by Sen. Mary Margaret Whipple (D-Arlington), most indoor public places - restaurants and other establishments - will pay a $500 fine for allowing smoking.

The Virginia General Assembly has rejected a statewide ban on smoking in bars and restaurants twice, first in February of 2006, and then on April 4, 2007, against the wishes of Governor Tim Kaine.
