The authorities had to shut down a tidal back bay of New York Harbor, Newark Bay, due to the collision of 3 vessels: two dredging ships - the New York and the Melvin Lemmerhirt - and The Orange Sun, a 669-foot tanker.
The collision took place this afternoon just before 2 p.m. It’s not clear yet if someone was hurt in the accident. But the Coast Guard reported that the New York was taking on water.
There was traced a sheen of hydraulic oil, but the Coast Guard reported no evidence of a major spill.
