4 UN employees may be among victims of car bombings in Algerian capital

Four United Nations employees may be among at least 22 people killed in separate car bombings in the Algerian capital.

"According to preliminary information that is not confirmed, we believe that there may be four deaths," said Maria Okabe.

Okabe said those figures were based on information from an emergency coordinator at the site where car bombs exploded minutes apart Tuesday in central Algiers.

The blasts damaged U.N. offices and a new government building, killing at least 22 people and wounding 177 others, according to Algerian officials.

"We are still trying to account for 14 people. The situation on the ground is very confusing," Okabe said. "They are trying to locate people in hospitals, they are digging through the rubble."
