A Russian nanny still mourning the death of her son was heading home after buying lottery tickets at a convenience store in New Jersey. The woman was killed when she was struck by a car as she crossed the street.
The crash happened at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, when an 18-year-old driver ran into Svitlana Parnyuk, who was hard to see because she was wearing all black clothing.
Shopkeepers who got to know the nanny said she had been wearing black since last year, when her 35-year-old son was killed in a car crash in Russia.
"It just appears to be a terrible accident," police Capt. Anthony Frato told The Record of Bergen County for Tuesday's newspapers.
Speed and alcohol were not factors. The teenager stopped immediately and stayed at the scene. Police say he will not be charged.
