France had tries from lock Jerome Thion, scrumhalf Pierre Mignoni, winger Aurelien Rougerie and hooker Sebastien Bruno. Flyhalf Lionel Beauxis converted all four tries and added two penalties.

Wales earned its only points through a converted try from flyhalf James Hook.

France, which had beaten England both at Twickenham and Marseille in other warmup matches, rested several of its key players for the match, but still dominated at the Millennium Stadium.

France went 17-0 ahead, with tries from Thion and Mignoni before Hook's converted try shortly before halftime.

Rougerie's try in the 56th minute pushed France further ahead before a final touchdown from Bruno, who was one of several replacements made at halftime.

Wales captain Gareth Thomas was taken off on a stretcher late in the match with an undisclosed injury.

Hook said Wales would learn from the defeat.

"We have learned little bits along the way and have taken a lot out of this game again," Hook said. "We will try to come back stronger, and we will."
