Four more men charged in Leipzig soccer riots

Four more men were charged Tuesday to bring the total to six from the soccer riots in Leipzig that left 39 police officers and six fans injured in February.

The men were charged by the Leipzig district attorney's office with disturbing the peace and causing severe bodily harm. They form part of the 28 cases that police are studying for possible prosecution.

About 800 Leipzig fans attacked some 300 police and other security officers after Leipzig lost 3-0 to FC Erzgebirge Aue II in a Saxony state cup match on Feb. 10.

Violence has been growing in Germany at soccer matches since last year's largely peaceful World Cup, but most of the trouble has been in minor leagues. Troublemakers face stadium bans.

There have been few prosecutions because police could only arrest a handful of rioters as they were outnumbered. Police have since identified culprits through video and photographs released to the public.
