FIFA lifts ban on Kenyan federation

FIFA lifted the ban on Kenyan teams taking part in international matches.

World soccer's governing body said Friday that its emergency committee had suspended the ban at the request of the Confederation of African Football after noting "positive developments" in a long-running dispute over political interference in the game.

FIFA banned the Kenyan federation in October because of what it described as "repeated government interference in local football affairs" and failure to comply with agreements signed in Cairo last January.

The Zurich-based organization accuses the Kenyan government of trying to influence the appointment of key officials within the KFF, and of obstructing a FIFA plan to bring the national federation in line with its rules, reports AP.

FIFA said it would send a delegation to Nairobi next week to work out a plan for the relaunch of Kenyan football.
