Beckham could miss up to two months with knee injury

David Beckham could be out of action for up to two months with a knee injury.

The Real Madrid midfielder injured the internal lateral ligament of his right knee in his team's 1-1 draw with Getafe on Sunday in the Spanish league. He is expected to have a scan later Monday.

The 31-year-old Beckham was taken off the field in the 69th minute, 37 minutes after teammate Jose Antonio Reyes was carried off on a stretcher with a similar injury to his left knee.

Beckham's injury "is serious, and the other could be something important. We will have to see," Madrid coach Fabio Capello said Sunday.

Madrid plays at Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, and then faces rival FC Barcelona on Saturday. Madrid, which beat Bayern 3-2 in the first leg of the second round of the Champions League, is fourth in the Spanish league with 44 points, reports AP.

Beckham's chances of returning to the England squad for a pair of upcoming European Championship qualifiers later this month is also in doubt.

In January, Beckham rejected a two-year contract extension with Madrid to join the Los Angeles Galaxy on a five-year deal after his contract with the Spanish club expires in June.
