Russian Hockey Player Nikolai Khabibulin Faces Up to Six Months in Prison in the U.S.

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin has been found guilty of speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Khabibulin, 37, showed no emotion as a judge in Scottsdale, Ariz., delivered the decision following a brief trial Friday afternoon. Sentencing will take place at a date yet to be confirmed, according to CBC.ca

Khabibulin could be sentenced to jail in Arizona if found guilty of misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and speeding. Khabibulin could spend a minimum of 30 days in jail for the misdemeanor. The maximum sentence is six months.

Khabibulin, was arrested Feb. 8. Police reports say Khabibulin was stopped and investigation lawmen smelled alcohol. He failed a field sobriety test and blew 0.164 on a blood-alcohol test. That would be twice Arizona's legal limit, resulting in extreme DUI, Matheson reports.

Khabibulin played 18 games last season before leaving the roster with a back injury that required surgery, Yahoo! Sports reports.
