Truck runs a woman over and killes her

A woman was fatally injured by a truck after trying to stop him from leaving after an argument about his driving, her daughter and police said.

Laurie Bragdon, 45, died at a hospital after she was run over Wednesday afternoon by a truck driven by Delbert Degree, 41, Vermont State Police said. Police said that evening that they had not charged anyone but that they continued to investigate.

No phone listing for a Delbert Degree could be found Wednesday evening.

Sarah Bragdon, 22, said her mother confronted Degree in a St. Johnsbury parking lot after he almost swiped their car about 20 miles (30 kilometers) away. The daughter had been driving at the time.

"He proceeded to use profanity with my mom," Sarah Bragdon said. "I got out because I was raised that you don't disrespect my mom."

Sarah Bradgon said she went to get a police officer while her mother stood in the parking lot, trying to block Degree. A witness told police that Degree ran over Bragdon, dragging her under the truck and crushing her.

"He hit her, and he hit her hard," Sarah Bragdon said. "She was all messed up."

The daughter said that earlier she had slowed to allow another car to turn. The speeding truck passed them on the left in a school zone, she said.
