Spain: Heart ailment forces soprano Cheryl Studer to postpone concert

Chicago born soprano Cheryl Studer was forced to postpone a performance in northern Spanish due to a heart ailment, the Auditorium of the City of Leon said Monday.

"Owing to a sudden illness to the soprano Cheryl Studer, the performance planned for the 18th November has been postponed until further notice," the auditorium said.

A Wagner specialist, Studer has been much in demand in recent years, particularly in the roles of Elsa in "Lohengrin" and Elisabeth in "Tannhaeuser."

Local newspaper Diario de Leon reported Monday that the singer had received rapid medical attention and that she had been diagnosed as having suffered a mild heart attack.

Studer will require around three months rest and recuperation according to press reports and the venue has been looking at the possibility of rescheduling the postponed concerts sometime after January, AP reported. V.A.
