Man jailed for beheading show-off

A hotel guest has been jailed for showing a woman an "abhorrent and shocking" video of an Iraqi hostage beheading.

Subhaan Younis, 23, showed the footage on his mobile phone to shop assistant Charlotte McClay who worked in the Moat House Hotel, in Glasgow.

Younis, who lived in Glasgow and had been staying in the hotel, had downloaded the clip from the internet.

The girl had been left "shocked, upset and frightened" by the horrific clip, according to stipendiary magistrate Euan Edment.

He said she could be affected "perhaps for the rest of her life".

Sentencing Younis to 60 days in jail he said: "I struggle to understand why any decent individual would have images showing the degradation and death of another human being regardless of their race, political or religious persuasion."

Younis, who was found guilty of breach of the peace, accepted the images were "abhorrent and shocking in the extreme", according to his defence solicitor Dominic Sellar.

He claimed Younis thought Ms McClay realised she was about to see a video of a hostage beheading, Sky news reports.

Mr Sellar told the court Younis realised he had made a "colossal mistake" and had behaved "naively, foolishly and stupidly".
