America undefeated for 25 weeks in Mexican soccer

America extended its unbeaten streak to a club record 25 games with a 2-1 victory over Tecos in Mexican first division soccer on Sunday. With the road win, America broke its previous record of 24 consecutive undefeated games set in 1971. America's Christian Gimenez scored in the 37th minute, Christian Gimenez equalized three minutes later, then Chilean Reinaldo Navia claimed the winner in the 48th. Tecos defender Diego Jimenez was expelled in the 79th after two yellow cards. America leads Group 1 with 20 points, but Group 3's Cruz Azul led overall with 21 after eight rounds in the Apertura. Cruz Azul beat Tigres 2-1 on Saturday. In Sunday's only other match, Santos Laguna won 3-1 against San Luis on goals by Gerardo Espinoza, Jair Garcia and Matias Vuoso. Hector Altamirano scored a first-half goal for San Luis. San Luis played with 10 men for 55 minutes after the expulsion of Juan Pablo Aveldano.
