David Trezeguet scored in the 36th minute with a powerful header from 8 meters (yards) on a curling cross from Gianluca Zambrotta.

Chievo goalkeeper Alberto Fontana previously had denied two acrobatic attempts by Trezeguet and one low drive by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Goalkeeper Christian Abbiati, on loan from AC Milan as a replacement injured Gianluigi Buffon, was never threatened by Chievo forwards. French defender Jonathan Zebina limped off the field after a few minutes and was replaced by Gianluca Pessotto.

Ascoli 1, AC Milan 1

Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko replied five minutes after defender Mirko Cudini had given Ascoli the lead, saving Milan from an embarrassing opening-round loss on a rain-soaked field.

Cudini kicked in a rebound to give the Serie A newcomer the lead in the 58th.

Shevchenko missed a winner a few minutes after his equalizer, kicking wide from a close range.

Inter Milan 3, Treviso 0

Brazilian striker Adriano scored goals in the 32nd, 69th and 79th minutes to increase his Serie A total to 58 in 107 league matches. He scored the opener with a low diagonal shot, added his second on an assist by Dejan Stankovic and kicked in the third from the area edge, fed by Marcelo Pizarro. He received a standing ovation as he was substituted in the closing minutes.

Macedonia striker Goran Pandev scored the only goal in the 21st, capitalizing after a defensive lapse on a long pass from Massimo Oddo

Palermo attacked for long periods, squandered some scoring chances and scored its only goal in the 37th when central defender Christian Terlizzi poked in a loose ball during goalmouth scramble. Australia midfielder Mark Bresciano equalized with a spectacular volley from the area edge in the 49th.

Reggina 0, AS Roma 3

Two second-half goals gave Luciano Spalletti an easy victory in his debut as Roma coach.

Amantino Mancini had one goal disallowed before scoring off a rebound in the 30th with a header after Reggina goalkeeper Ivan Pelizzoli made an initial save.

Veteran striker Enrico Chiesa scored twice, converting an injury time penalty equalize just before halftime and adding the winner with a precise low shot in the 58th. Mauro Esposito gave Cagliari the lead in the ninth minute.

Christian Obodo sent a long ball to Sulley Muntari, who tallied with his left foot for the winner in the 30th. Udinese goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis made a couple of decisive saves in the second half. AP reported.
