Bottled Message Emerges in 60 Years

A Swiss tourist came across a bottle with a message written 60 years ago when he walked about a beach in Sweden. The message was written by Maya Westerman, an Estonian refugee who informed she had escaped from Estonia that was occupied by Germans at that period. Together with her sister she found refuge on one of the islands in the Baltic Sea.

The bottle traveled about the sea since 1943 and was discovered just recently. The message from the bottle says: "Dear Friend! We are living on an island. We came here a year ago; the family who received us is very kind. Is the war over? If it is, I would be happy to see my family once again. Best Regards."

In the time of WWII thousands of refugees left the Baltic Region looking for rescue from German occupants. About two thousand refugees took shelter on the island Gotska Sandoen where Maya stayed with her sister. The man who came across the message says it would be interesting to find and see Maya, to find out what has happened to her.
