Air Conditioners and Women's Towels Delivered to Iraq

A joke of an American soldier in Iraq resulted in a large-scale campaign in the USA called "Operation Air Conditioner." In a letter to his family, a soldier wrote that everything was fine with him, that his army service in Iraq was just fine. The only discomfort for the soldier, as he wrote, was the terrible heat - up to 50 degrees above zero Celsius. The soldier wrote that it would be very good to provide a personal air conditioner to every military man.

The soldier's parents decided to ease their son's army life - they sent a big box of 14 air conditioners to Iraq. Fourteen conditioners more are going to be shipped to Iraq very soon too. Moreover, the parents addressed to several veteran organizations, asking for assistance. Within several days, Operation Air Conditioner helped to collect the money that would be enough to purchase 200 conditioners more.

Caring parents are not going to stop. As soon as they learnt of the lack of women's towels in Iraq, they addressed to certain companies that produce them - the attempt resulted in a big truck of women's towels. The gift was immediately shipped to military women of the American forces in Iraq.

The US Command treated the initiative with understanding. However, the parents were warned that all the equipment would be left in Iraq in case if American troops in Iraq were re-deployed or withdrawn.
