Russia to start paying compensations to Russian forced labourers of WWII

Wednesday will see the beginning of regular compensatory payments to Russians who were used as slave labourers in Austrian territory during the Second World War, said the press service of Russia's Mutual Understanding and Reconciliation Fund, the organisation in charge of payments in Russia.

The second tranche for the payments amounting to 6 million euros was extended to Russia by the Austrian Reconciliation, Peace and Cooperation Fund. A total of 2,830 people from Russia's 79 regions are expected to receive the compensations.

In compliance with Austrian legislation, the former slave labourers will receive 7,630 euros, those who were forced to work in the industrial sector, in state institutions, on the railways and in the Reich's post offices - 2,544 euros each, in the forestry, agricultural and private services sector - 1,453 euros.

Apart from that, additional compensations of 363 euros will be paid to women who during the forced labour delivered children in special maternity homes or were forced to interrupt pregnancy.
