A Russian prize awarded to the head of the de beers company

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the De Beers diamond producing company Nicolas Oppenheimer has been awarded the Russian International Prize of Saint Andrew the First Called, RIA Novosti was told in the Russian Centre of National Glory.

The Russian International Prize of Saint Andrew the First Called was instituted in 1992 by the Apostle Andrew the First Called Foundation with the blessing of Patriarch Alexis II.

The prize is awarded "For the contribution to the political, spiritual, intellectual, economic, defence and cultural might of Russia" and is annually presented to several winners chosen by the Foundation's Public Council whose members are the prize winners of the past years.

The prize does not have a monetary content. Its winner receives a precise copy of the historical order of Saint Andrew the First Called on the ribbon, a certificate and an icon of the Apostle Andrew the First Called.

In 2000, at the decision of the Foundation's Council the prize was given the status of an international prize and is awarded both to Russian citizens and to foreigners.
