Russian ice hockey team aims to score on Japanese ice

Russian ice hockey players have asked for permission to play in Japan. Japanese media sources reported on Thursday that the Russian Far East team Samorodok, from the town of Kharabovsk, had applied to the professional Japanese Ice Hockey League for permission to play in the country's professional championship.

The club's owner, Viktor Lopatyuk, made the request during a meeting in Japan with the vice-president of the Japanese ice hockey league, Shioichi Tomita.

The Japanese side said that it would consider the application seriously.
