Fifth operation on skin transplantation for Larisa Gamova

The fifth operation on skin transplantation was made on the widow of Russian General Gamov, Larisa Gamova on Wednesday in Tokyo hospital of the Kyorin University.

As it was disclosed to a RIA Novosti correspondent by a staff member of the hospital, "in the course of the fifth operation three areas of the skin were once more transplanted due to the rejection of the donor skin from the previous operations." According to the staff member of the hospital, in the result of the previous operations "100% of the burnt skin was transplanted." "However, as it often happens, in some places the donor skin was rejected by the body," the staff member of the hospital said.

The fifth operation lasted for 2,5 hours, he said.

"In the near future we plan to make for Larisa Gamova a number of minor operations, which will be kept in secret from the media." The representative of the hospital evaluated Gamova's condition as "relatively stable." According to doctors, the Wednesday operation was "smooth".

General Gamov and his spouse were taken from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Sapporo on the Northern Japanese island Hokkaido after unknown criminals in the early morning of May 21 threw bottles of Molotov Cocktail into their flat. Vitaly and Larisa Gamovs received vast damage of skin, a burn of the upper respiratory tract and a third degree shock. The doctors could not save the life of Vitaly Gamov, and on May 28 he died in hospital.

According to the staff member of the hospital, Larisa Gamova is still affected by the medical preparations and has not woken up yet.
