Photo exhibition from epicentre of American tragedy shown in Urals

A display of photographs from the epicentre of the September 11th tragedy titled "Images from Ground Zero" opened on Monday at the Fine Arts Museum in Yekaterinburg (administrative centre in the Urals).

The display consists of 27 photographs from the New York museum's collection, reported the US consulate general in Yekaterinburg. The pictures were made by prominent American photographer Joel Meyerovitz, the only one given free access to the tragedy's epicentre beginning with September 13th, 2001.

These 76 x 101 cm colour photographs, many of which were taken by a large format camera, demonstrate the actual scale of the act of terrorism, becoming a shocking reminder for the audience. Meyerovitz has managed to shoot about 4,000 pictures in the epicentre of the tragedy, which with time will become part of the complete archives of the September 11th horror.

The exhibition is the property of New York. Under an agreement between the museum and the US government, the exhibition is being shown throughout the world. It has already been shown in 32 countries and before the end of the year will have been demonstrated in ten more. In Russia is was already on display in Moscow and Novosibirsk (Siberia). From Yekaterinburg it will be taken to St.Petersburg.
