EU, Russia, Youth, and Politics Festival to Open in St. Petersburg Tomorrow

The first "festival of the future" entitled European Union, Russia, Youth, and Politics will be held in St. Petersburg on June 14 and 15. Its about 200 declared participants represent the politically and otherwise oriented youth organisations of Russia's Northwest and the Eastern and Central European countries. They will discuss current issues as to the development of youth movements, the role of political parties in the forming of democracy, the influence of mass media on the young, and the ways new informational technologies are used in this way. The festival is unique in that its initiators are young politicians from Russia's Northwestern Federal District.

Representatives from the Parliament of Europe, the leaders of youth's political movements and parties of Europe and Russia, and young entrepreneurs are expected to speak before the participants of the festival. A number of political organisations of Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Finland, France, Czechia, and Sweden have confirmed their participation.

Viktor Cherkesov, the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the Northwestern Federal District, Moscow's Foundation for Effective Politics, St. Petersburg's Fund for Economic and Political Research, the Netherlands's Alfred Moser Foundation, Germany's Friedrisch Ebert Foundation, Great Britain's Westminster Foundation, and St. Petersburg's Young Politicians' Club that brings together the young leaders and members of the youth political movements and parties of Russia also intend to take part in this event.
