Moscow Prosecutor's Office sets up investigating group to inquire into Sunday mass violence

The Moscow Prosecutor's Office has set up a special investigating group to inquire into the Sunday outburst of street violence in Moscow.

The Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case according to Article 212, part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation /participation in mass violence/ and has engaged operational services and video tapes made by media and private persons to track down people who actually committed crimes against citizens and property, reported the press service of the Prosecutor's Office on Monday.

As of this moment, law enforcers have detained about 70 people, all of whom are suspected of committing crimes and various infringements.

According to preliminary information, Sunday violence in Moscow injured 74 people. In the center of the city, police found the body of a 17-year-old teenager. All in all, the crowd wrecked or burnt down more than 60 cars, and smashed a variety of windows in houses and stores. Damages will be estimated in the course of the investigation, said the Prosecutor's Office.
