International Contest of Young Jewellers Opens in St. Petersburg Today

The St. Petersburg branch of the Faberge Arts Foundation will inaugurate today the 4th international contest of young jewellers of the Nordic Countries. The event is meant to encourage young people's creativity while promoting both traditional and modern trends in the art of jewellery making. The jewellers-to-be will also be introduced to the latest advances in technology and jewellery design.

As the organising committee informed, the idea of the event was born in the beginning of the 20th century by great Karl Faberge himself. The Faberge Arts Foundation brought the tradition back to life. First such contest was held in 1996. Millennium 2000, the third, brought together jewellers from Russia, Finland, Sweden, Iceland and Estonia. Denmark will participate in the event for the first time this year.

The results of the contest will be made public on May 31. The jury consists of experts and jewellers from St. Petersburg, Europe and the USA, Tatiana Faberge from Switzerland, chairing. Among the awards are European tours, training opportunities at the best Russian and Western jewellers' houses and exclusive tool kits and books.
