Trust of population in Chechnya in activity of bureau for human rights protection rises

The trust of the population in Chechnya in the activity of the Bureau for Human Rights Protection has considerably risen of late. This was stated by special representative of the Russian President for human rights in the Chechen Republic Vladimir Kalamanov, when he spoke at the session of the State Duma's (Lower House of the Russian Parliament) committee for contributing to the settlement of the economic and political situation in the territory of the Chechen Republic. As Vladimir Kalamanov put it, at present eighty percent of the applications received by the Bureau concern exclusively civil matters. In particular, "an increase has been registered in the number of the applications coming from forced migrants concerning the protection of the rights to private property, the right to movement, and so on." "We have already won 200 law suits in courts based on people's complaints," said Vladimir Kalamanov. Altogether, nearly 30,000 people have sent their applications to the Bureau for Human Rights Protection in Chechnya during the period of its existence beginning with the year 2000, said Vladimir Kalamanov.
