Authorities of Shimizu town informed Russia's national football team of damage done to football fields at its training camp

The authorities of the town of Shimizu have informed the national football team of Russia that ill-minded persons spoilt two football fields at the training camp of the Russian team. Ioshiro Saito, managing director of the National Training Centre situated at Shimizu where Russia's national team will be accommodated during the world championship this June, said this on Wednesday in an interview with the RIA Novosti correspondent. In the morning of May 6 the employees of the Centre saw that the grass on the two football fields prepared for the Russian squad had turned yellow and had faded. Shortly afterwards it became clear that ill-minded persons had penetrated into the territory of the Centre at night and had sprayed some kind of chemicals on the fields. Approximately 30 per cent of the lawn was damaged on one field, and about 80 per cent - on the other. In connection with this incident, from May 7 the authorities of Shimizu introduced a system of round-the-clock guard of the football fields by private security companies and police. An investigation is under way, the criminals have not been found yet.
