Russian Schoolchildren Who Won International Contests To Receive Scholarships From Interros

Russian schoolchildren, winners of international school competitions in 2000, will each draw a monthly scholarship of 2,000 roubles. Decision to support the gifted children financially has been taken by the charity fund of Interros company. On Monday in the Ministry of Education, company president Vladimir Potanin handed scholarship certificates to a group of schoolchildren and grants to supervising professors of combined teams to different contests. Potanin said that the scholarships will be paid to children "all the time they study in a state educational establishment". In 2000, international contests of pupils were attended by 26 Russian schoolchildren, with 23 of them becoming either overall winners or taking prizes in such subjects as mathematics, physics, chemistry, ecology, biology, computer science or geography. Russia's Education Minister Vladimir Filippov singled out a mathematics competition in China, where Russian schoolchildren became absolute winners among 40 teams.
